Calgary is alive with public art and light installations these days, and Victoria Park’s Fort Chinook comes as a welcome addition to the fun.

In partnership with Chinook Blast, the city’s newest new midwinter roundup of outdoor experiences, Fort Chinook is housed in the Hotel Arts parking lot and is meant to act as a beacon of hope in a tumultuous time.

“It’s a symbol of strength and hope as we deal with the pandemic,” says the Victoria Park Business Improvement Area, “Behind its gate is the salvation we are seeking.”

The Victoria Park BIA has teamed up with local company Big Art to bring Fort Chinook to life.

This glowing fortress of light is made up of over 100 cubes that are illuminated at night and transition through a variety of colours.

“Fort Chinook is a gesture, a signal that we can, even in the middle of a pandemic, do really neat things safely,” says David Low, Victoria Park BIA, Executive Director.

The photo-worthy installation is lit up every evening from 5 to 10 pm until February 28.
