Downtown bar Shoe&Canoe Public House had the best poutine in Calgary after a week of fries, curds and gravy.

The second edition of the week-long La Poutine Week — sponsored by Saputo and Skip the Dishes — ran Feb. 1-7 and featured 700 participating restaurants in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Alberta competing for best poutine honours in a popular vote in each participating city.

There were 32 restaurants in Calgary participating in the food festival and Shoe&Canoe Public House’s braised beef short rib poutine was voted best poutine in Calgary.

Last Best Brewing and Distilling’s Nashville hot fried chicken poutine, food truck Canadian Bear Balls’ Thanksgiving poutine, Wok Box’s Tokyo beef poutine, and Browns Socialhouse’s tiger masala poutine all collected honourable mentions.

The festival had a charitable component, raising “thousands of dollars” for the Anorexia and Bulimia Quebec charity, according to a press release.

Over 225,000 Canadians participated in the festival.
